How to Sell to Women Seminar

On Friday the 13th of July I gave a seminar to 15 seasoned salesmen with a median age of about 45 years.  I had done much thinking prior to the seminar to make it "male friendly" but "real" and think I succeeded to some degree.  I don't think I made great inroads, based on the body language I was getting.  Some of the guys were already pretty enlightened about selling to women and unfortunately those that were clueless or unwilling to change most likely heard little of what I said.

That is my frustration.  All I can concentrate on is all the ways that I failed to get my point across.  I t may not have mattered what I said, some were not going to be receptive. The lowest scores on my evaluation was the subject matter.  The Sales Manager chose that, not me.  I think I should have involved them more in the program, but I am not sure I would have gotten much participation.

It reminded me of my teaching days, when I had great lesson plans that weren't well received or that I just had unreasonably high expectations about.  With experience, those expectations change and connections improve.  I am looking forward to my next speaking engagement and trying to keep that in mind.

Jeanne, did you know that most salespeople don't go to seminars and/or sales training to learn anything? They actually go to get confirmation that they're doing the right things. Only the very best salespeople realize that they have a lot to learn. Don't be discouraged by those bozos. Just keep learning and looking for someone who actually wants to get better.
